I’m not that upset about it. It was two weeks ago. I’m going to have to make a teeny reference to it in the sermon on Sunday though.

The lectionary readings for two weeks ago rang my bell, as I’ll explain on Sunday. Issues around gender equality still get to me.. But I have a sense of humor about it! And humor is a great way to clothe Great Truths.

So….this was on the Internet last week, a description of how women behave in meetings so as not to upset men. I know, it’s probably not true for you, but it has pretty much been for me – and I have always considered myself pretty darn diplomatic!

So how would women have to present an important historical message? This is from the Washingston Post: “

Give me liberty, or give me death.”

Woman in a Meeting: “Dave, if I could, I could just — I just really feel like if we had liberty it would be terrific, and the alternative would just be awful, you know? That’s just how it strikes me. I don’t know.”

“I have a dream today!”

Woman in a Meeting: “I’m sorry, I just had this idea — it’s probably crazy, but — look, just as long as we’re throwing things out here — I had sort of an idea or vision about maybe the future?”

“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”

Woman in a Meeting: “I’m sorry, Mikhail, if I could? Didn’t mean to cut you off there. Can we agree that this wall maybe isn’t quite doing what it should be doing? Just looking at everything everyone’s been saying, it seems like we could consider removing it. Possibly. I don’t know, what does the room feel?”

I hope you enjoyed this a tiny bit at least although we all laugh at different things, I guess. At least I hope it didn’t offend you and if it did I am so so sorry….”

See you in church. (if it works out for, you, I mean. No pressure.)
